wicked_caty posted a topic in Books, Music, & ArtIn his books he attacks the scientists, because they exclude everything that can't be explained by the knowledge they have at this very moment. He says that "supernatural" things (like magick) must be included in science, because everything works only as a whole. He has a really unique style. He simply writes what's on his mind, and doesn't care if he hurts anyone's feelings. He uses examples to demonstrate his arguments, and actually tries to convince the reader (instead of that usual "here is some data, now believe in it"). The books were written somewhen at the very beginning of the 20th century, but with a dictionary it should be readable :D The 4 books are: Lo! New lands The book of the damned Wild talents
I was going to make a blog post about this, but then I realized that it would make a good conversation thread. I'm sure that we all have quotes that we find personally relevant, whether from books, music, film, games, or otherwise (while this could fit in other areas, this seemed to be the best subforum, as the subject involves the written word in one form or another). What quotes hold significance for you? You may feel free to simply list them or to also explain what they mean to you. I shall begin by just listing a handful, but I welcome any and all questions about them, so feel free to ask. I think it might be nice to have that be part of this thread's purpose. (I did run a few searches, but was unable to find any other threads similar to this. I apologize if I missed one, so I understand if this needs to be merged.) "To be great is to be misunderstood." - Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Self-Reliance" "To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often." - Winston Churchill "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." - Frederick Douglass "Beauty is whatever gives joy." - Edna St. Vincent Millay "Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them." - Mark 7:15 "We're not here because of people like him. We're here because of who we are in the face of people like him." - Castle "There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it." - Oscar Wilde "There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self." - Earnest Hemingway "Manners maketh man." - William Horman, Vulgaria "It is better a chylde unborn than untaught." - William Horman, Vulgaria
