Images popping up in my mind

Rarely it happens that out of nowhere, a detailed image pops up in my mind. Yesterday I went to bed, when suddenly I had a full image of a demon in my mind.
Most of the time it's monsters / fantasy creatures, similar to Pokemon or Experiments from Lilo & Stitch. Less common are images of complex colorful patterns / shapes. Rarely it is other stuff.

Does this ever happen to you or am I rather alone with this?

I don't know if this is similar but ever since I was small I would very rarely decide to "take a picture with my mind" whenever I felt like I wanted to safe a moment as I experienced it. Over the years I have "saved" a lot of pictures in my mind and they sometimes come back to me randomly and it's like I am completely back in that moment.

What you are describing is different, but also interesting. When an image suddenly pops up in my mind, I did not choose to create an image. It just happens, sometimes for apparently no reason.
Your mental photography makes me think of Temple Grandin, an autistic woman who thinks in pictures.
