So let me start off this group with a question: how would you explain your kin type to someone in one sentence? And what might someone not get from that? Mine is in my signature. What people might not get is that I don't know how many legs my kin type has, or whether it can change that number.

The sentence I'd probably use is "A winged android disguised as a human to try and integrate in to their society."

I'd likely get the usual confusion about how I identify as a non-organic creature. They may even ask about how I disguised as a human while having wings as well.

Well, I am a demonic, polymorphic energy being with strong ties to nature.

Which misses out a lot of the defining parts of my identity. "Demonic energy being" is not really very specific when it comes down to it... especially since nobody seems to know what demons actually are, and energy beings can be anything from ghosts to fae to deities. And that part of me is so complex and confusing... I've wrote entire pages on it and still not found any way to fully describe what it actually is. It's just weird. So... demonic energy being it is.

I kinda have the reverse problem: My kintype is easy to explain, it's just that nobody outside of ornitologist know about them.

"I am a Cormorant, but I don't know the exact subspecies" is clear to me, but then I have to explain that cormorant are migratory bird who aren't part of the duck familly but that are still water-bird who need to dry their feathers and can be either ocean or river based...

Urg. Why coudn't I be like, an owl or a swan...

@MamaMath I know the feeling. It would probably be easier for me if I was a plain old faun, let alone a goat.

I'm polykin, so I don't know how to fit everything in one sentence. I'd probably say "a possessed doll, a small child, a deer, and some kind of dog."
     Kyle

I'd say "an angel that may or may not have fallen from grace."
     Mal

Out of this world." Just kidding, I'd say "potentially the weirdest-lookinng alien you've ever seen."
     Glitch

Hm... Never thought of that, actually. Guess I'd say "A time-hopping agent" or something like that!

Much as I hate to use the common vernacular for describing a centaur, I'll just modify it:

"Half human from the waist up, and 80% of a horse from the waist down."

Because the neck and head of a horse doesn't constitute half of it ;)

I'd really like to just say "Centaur." The way a mermaid could just say "Mermaid." and people would instantly know without needing a description. Even with some popular movies out there today, we're still a long way off from that simple one-word description. Centaurs don't have enough popular literature behind them. There's no "The Little Centaur" book or story on the minds of the masses.

@Gryneos I totally agree with you; while I think the appearance of centaurs is pretty well understood, people tend to misunderstand the rest.

My kintype is easy to put into a single sentence, even barring the actual term for it. "I identify as one of those big machines in the control room of a recording studio." It's the explanation that follows which takes way more than one sentence.
