(We kept failing at doing an introduction, so we ended up doing a fill-out set-up. Some people are not mentioned/introduced either due to being shy or still doubting. Or both.)

Feel free to ask us any questions. (Seriously. We love questions.)

    Name: Cavern-Risen

Species and source: garou, a kind of werewolf like those from Werewolf The Apocalypse

Description of species: Her coat color is black and she has several deformities (due to being what the game calls a "metis" and "Black Spiral Dancer") which include overly long front digits, some misplaced & enlarged teeth, a shortened tail, a bat-like nose, and large bat-like ears.

Discovery of being fictionkin: Has identified as a werewolf since we were little, but did not come across the White Wolf game in detail (enough to notice similarities) until we were in our mid 20s.

Essay?: Way Of This Werewolf (warning: 24+ pages long)

    ---

    Name: Miuhsra

Species and source: "Named" from the series Books of the Named series (also called Ratha and the Named series)

Description of species: An off-white/cream/light gray cheetah-like feline that is highly social with slight saber teeth.

Discovery of being fictionkin: Has identified as a feline since we can remember and concluded she was some kind of prehistroic feline in our early teens. We ran across the book series by Clare Bell by chance in our early 20s but it took several books in for Miushra to begin to accept her similarity to the Named.

Essay?: Comparing One Name to the Named

    ---

    Name: Ebony

Species and source: Thestral from the Harry Potter series.

Description of species: Basically he's a black insanely thin three-toed horse with bat-like wings and a dragon-like mouth (compete with sharp teeth).

Discovery of being fictionkin: He actually identified as and we recognized him as he is before Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was published. When we finally got around to reading the book we noticed similarities, and things just went from there.

    Essay?: Fangs Flesh and Flight

    ---

    Name: Holo

Species and source: "wheat-wolf/wisewolf" from Spice and Wolf. ("Wise-wolf comes from the anime/manga, but "wheat-wolf" is the mythical name for the spirit.)

Description of species: She has two forms: one an elephant sized white and brown wolf, and the other human with long brown/red hair with both wolf ears and a tail.

Discovery of being fictionkin: She never discovered she was a fictionkin. It has always been a given. Our system was abused by someone in our early 20s who was obsessed with Holo from Spice and Wolf and sometime after we got away from him, she began appearing in our system. She is our only known for sure trauma-caused headmate. (Almost everyone else in our system is not really known if they are trauma-caused, or what.)

Essay?: She is currently working on one. It's about four pages long right now, but she still has a lot she wants to discuss. What is making it had to describe her identity is due to her being a known trauma-created headmate.

    ---

    Name: Dash

Species and source: The Dash from Cardcaptors (Sort of...?)

Description of species: Dash looks like someone took a Rüppell's fox and made him blue with a diamond marking on his head, etc.

Discovery of being fictionkin: He's been around since our preteen years at least but sadly this is around the time the series Cardcaptors was around. So we don't know for sure if he was around before the series aired. What makes it more confusing is that while he looks like Dash (and is named such) he acts like a Rüppell's fox and he more identifies as a fox. So his identity seems like a bit of a mess.

Essay?: No. He's a child headmate and wouldn't really describe his identity enough to write an essay himself.

    ---

    Name: Ace

Species and source: Tiger (not the feline kind) from the Monster Rancher franchise

Description of species: Blue and white wolf-like creature the size of a tiger with a mane and angled horns.

Discovery of being fictionkin: He has been around since we can remember but his species does appear in the anime Monster Rancher which was around during our earliest memories of anything. So we don't know if he was around before we knew of the series. However, he (and the rest of his subsystem) has been around ever since.

Essay?: No, and isn't sure if he will write one as Knives's essay would cover much of what he would say.

    ---

    Name: Knives

Species and source: Cabalos from the Monster Rancher franchise

Description of species: Purple wolf-like creature with scales instead of fur (only fur is a mane and bushy tail) and angled horns.

Discovery of being fictionkin: He has been around since we can remember but his species does appear in the anime Monster Rancher which was around during our earliest memories of anything. So we don't know if he was around before we knew of the series. However, he (and the rest of his subsystem) has been around ever since.

Essay?: Currently working on one. It's got a long way to go though.

    ---

    Name: Page

Species and source: Rover from the Monster Rancher franchise

Description of species: white and born wolf-like creature with mane

Discovery of being fictionkin: She has been around since we can remember but her species does appear in the anime Monster Rancher (for a few seconds) which was around during our earliest memories of anything. So we don't know if she was around before we knew of the series. However, she (and the rest of her subsystem) has been around ever since.

Essay?: Has thought about it, but hasn't decided if she ever will. (Plus some of her rational for her labels will be explained if Knives finishes his)

    ---

Name: Joker from the Monster Rancher franchise

    Species and source: Bargest

Description of species: wolf-like creature with wolf skull for head, yellow curved horns, a gray mane, a gray upper body, and a lower body that is red with black strips.

Discovery of being fictionkin: He's been around since we can remember; however unlike the rest of his subsystem, his species never appeared in the anime called Monster Rancher. His species only appears in a few of the games which we've never played. We didn't even discover his species appeared in games until we went searching for other wolf-like monsters from the series wondering if any looked like him. (Which didn't happen until we were in our early 20s.)

Essay?: No. (We don't really trust with the front.)

    ---

    Name: Quval

Species and source: Bronze fire lizard from the series Dragonriders of Pern (Until recently used to call his species "dragonet" and "dragonfly" and still getting used to calling his species fire lizard.)

Description of species: He is a domestic cat-sized little bronze colored lean dragon with a forked tail and bat-like wings.

Discovery of being fictionkin: We've known about him since we can remember and started calling his species "dragonfly" during our preteens due to being such a little cute dragon-like creature. Then we picked up the Dragonriders of Pern series because we wanted to read some books with dragons in it and in the second book discovered creatures like Quval. Several books later of trying to prove he wasn't, lead us to concluded the label of fire lizard fictionkin fit.

Essay?: Currently being worked on. Right now has about three pages done, but still is ironing out some details he wants to explore more.

    ---

    Name: Eliask

Species and source: Blue watch-wher from the series, Dragonriders of Pern (Still isn't to savvy on being called a watch-wher and still prefers the terms he used to call himself when we were growing up - "drake" or "gargoyle.")

Description of species: He basically looks like a cow-size blue dragon with short-ish legs, short tail, two digit feet, and small wings with a head like a cross between a pit-bull and a dragon with large eyes. He's species is very nocturnal.

Discovery of being fictionkin: He's been around since we can remember. He got the idea of calling his species "gargoyle" for the longest time (due to lack of a better term) thanks to the series, Gargoyles (The series as a character called Bronx which he thought his species vaguely looked like that character's species.) Then about a year ago we decided to read the, Dragonriders of Pern series... and discovered several of our members share a lot of traits with several of the draconic creatures in the series. We waited to make conclusions until we read enough books to get enough details about watch-whers but upon doing so we discovered just how similar his species is compared to watch-whers.

Essay?: Currently in progress. Right now very rough.

    ---

    Name: Titus

Species and (possible) source: Red dragon

Description of species: Titus is a huge old red dragon that looks exactly like the red dragons from the Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying game. So much so he has questioned if he counts as fictionkin because of that. He knows the physical similarity is spot on between them and himself, but hasn't gone in-depth (yet) to see how much their behaviors match his own thus why he hasn't decided if he is fictionkin or not.

Discovery of being fictionkin: Somehow we didn't learn of Dungeons and Dragons until we were in our late teens, but never learned much about it outside of "it's a fantasy roleplaying game." When while searching for images of dragons that looked like Titus some years ago we came across an image of a red dragon from the game, realized how exact it was and have been wondering ever since.

    Essay?: No.

Again, feel free to ask questions. Really. We like questions.

This was such fun to read. I've been dying to ask you about everyone within your multiplicity but I didn't know how to without sounding weird or if you were even ok with that kind of question.
Are you all spiritual, psychological, or a mix of both in your system?

    Primary Identity:
    Multiple System
Our multiplicity in general - well, we do not know for sure if our existence was caused by something neurological, psychological, spiritual, and/or a combination of any of those. Each of us in our system have our own thoughts and hypotheses, but we are not sure if any are actually the case for us. What caused us to be an us at all. Where we came from. We know the upfront after effects fairly well, but not the cause behind the scenes. The viewpoints on our origin range rather widely from one person to other in the system. Ranging from very deeply set in spiritual beliefs to solidly placed in possible scientific views with lots of people in-between those two extremes. Plus those of us who hold more spiritual views have different hypotheses, and those of us who hold scientific views have different hypotheses. On top of all this a few of us just don’t have a real opinion on the matter either way.

A breakdown on the possible causes we have considered/are considering to some extent or another:

    Neurological: Atypical Brain Wiring
A number of us wonder if there is not something neurologically different about how our brain is wired which just made our brain form the way it did without external events providing a catalyst for us becoming an us. So some sort of mental abnormality. If this were the case, our multiplicity was perhaps inevitable as our brain would just be preconditioned to house more than sense of self and identity. A number of those in our multiple system, favor this hypothesis; however, to even begin to prove this possible scenario the case, it would take any number of brain scans or who knows what else. Plus, we've not even sure how faintly plausible this hypothesis even is scientifically/neurologically. So the idea is interesting, but that is about it.

    Psychological: Trauma
Then there is the possibility our system was created by psychological factors at play due to early childhood trauma. We basically have no memories of anything before the age of about 7 so the bulk of the time frame in our childhood in which trauma could lead to multiplicity, is unknown to all of us in our system. (The lack of early childhood memories isn’t overly suspicious to us on its own as that could merely be due to normal memory loss of early childhood memories.) Some of our earliest memories we can recall were negative and we remember them very vividly. However, while those memories are negative and they left a negative impact on us, those memories are nothing compared to what multiple systems who know they are caused by trauma-caused report. During our childhood, we were verbally and physically punished by our mother and even our teachers for “claiming to be a boy” throughout our childhood. Our sister recalls it began happening as early as 4 years old and we personally recall memories of it still happening by age 7 up until about age 10 when we completely stopped telling people how we felt or what we thought. We also experienced similar physical and verbal punishment related to early signs of therianthropy and being honest about our experiences in day to day life around that same timeframe. Those memories are painful to us and we still effect us today, but we don’t know if these events truly warrant being called “traumatic” so we are hesitant to call them such. Plus, even if they could be called traumatic we’re not sure if they even caused our multiplicity. Beyond those memories, we can’t recall anything of our early childhood that could come close to being “traumatic.” So because of this, we really don’t know if trauma caused our system to exist or not. This explanation might nicely explain the statistics within our system (lots of nonhuman headmates, large split of headmates of different genders, etc) if that variety was our brain trying to cope or figure out maybe some way of dealing with our feelings in the face of punishment from people for being who were at such a young age. So we are open to this hypothesis being the case, but we don’t know if it is the case for sure.

    Psychological: Identity Development Disruption
Another thought that has crossed our minds is that perhaps those events in our early life (while not truly “traumatic” or not as extreme as trauma can be), was still enough to disrupt our personality and identity development due to how the punishment was directly against our own identity and feelings from people we thought we could trust. So we have wondered if those instances of our mother and other figures in our early life denying or even punishing us because of how we felt and who we were (early evidence of being trans, etc) was enough to disrupt what would have been our normal development. Some of us have wondered this. So this hypothesis is an interesting idea to us and might fit within the known model of how multiplicity is formed psychologically. Plus as already said, it could explain why our system ended up with so many nonhuman headmates and headmates with differing genders. However we have no idea how possible it even is, let alone if this is what actually caused us.

    Psychological: Dissociation Due To Dysphoria
Another thought that we have mulled over is if our very own dysphoria early own in our childhood could have had a hand in our creation. Our gender, species, and body dysphoria has caused us to have a load of dissociative experiences from our early childhood (of what of it we can remember) and into present day. Both DID and OSDD are dissociative disorders, so there might be a link there to some extent. We don’t see it as likely at all that our dysphoria alone caused our multiplicity, merely that it might have been yet another thing to cause us to be multiple alongside other factors already talked about. So there is that hypothesis added into the bag as well.

Spiritual: Many Souls Incarnated Into One Body
A few of us hold the spiritual belief that each of us are spirits/souls in our own right who happened to have been incarnated into the same body. Of those of us who view our cause this way, the exact believed reason for happening it varies. One person thinks that perhaps the cause is for spiritual growth and challenge with sharing a body together. A few of us wonder if it just was a fluke or accident. A handful of us generally really subscribe to this hypothesis though they aren’t sold on if it is the case or not.

    Spiritual: Walk-ins/Spirit Possession
The belief that spirits/souls can come into body after the body has been born us not unheard of at all. If the event is negative, positive, or even neutral depends upon the belief and the nature of the entities in question as well. Among pagans and New Age folk, there is a variety of beliefs and even practices related to such ideas. Due to our animistic pagan beliefs, this belief is very much a part of how we see the world. So the idea that some of us could be sprits/souls that came into our body after our body was born, isn’t outside a realm of possibility for us. We have memories of many of us being around since we can remember much of anything clearly so if those of us we remember being around all the way to back then are walk-ins, we would have had to walked in very early in our life. So there is some amount of doubt for this hypothesis for most of us. A few people in our system think this might be the case for them, but think this is likely not the case for the rest of our system.

    Spiritual: Shattered/Split Soul
Another idea that has come to mind, is the belief in the possibility of our existence being caused by a shattered soul. There is the belief that trauma or even a crisis in life can cause the soul to split into one or more pieces. Generally this belief also holds the soul-part may become lost disconnected from the body as a result. This belief to some extent or another is found in different animistic or even polytheistic pagan religions including the ones several of us adhere to, so we are very at home with the possibility spirituality speaking. So, perhaps there events in our very early childhood caused our soul to split into many pieces, thus leading to us to be as we are today. So this hypothesis is basically the same idea on how our system might have been caused by trauma or whatnot, but with a spiritual bent rather than psychological one. This hypothesis is unknowable to us due to not being sure the negative events in our early life caused us to be multiple and not being sure if our existence as multiple is even connected to those events (let alone if they could shatter a soul). However, we are open to the possibility of it being the case as well.

    Mixed Hypotheses
Finally, there is the hypothesis that one or more of the hypotheses already outlined above were at play to have created our system. Some examples of possible combinations that one or more of these that we have thought over include: most of us having been incarnated into this body but some of us being walk-ins, us being created due to combination of atypical neurological wiring and trauma/a disruption of normal identity development in our early childhood, our system mostly being created due to trauma/disruption of normal identity development but a few of us being walk-ins, and any other number of combinations. A number of us in our system really lean toward the idea of our system having been created due to a number of factors leading to our existence. However, what combination of hypotheses any of us favor, varies. One of the most favored ones, however, is the possibility our system was created due to brain wiring, many souls coming into our body right at birth or right after that, and those events of our childhood causing a disruption in our identity development.
